Ted Pillsbury

David Hockney, Cecil Beaton, 1970, ink on paper, 14 x 17"

We were saddened to hear the news this morning of the passing of Dr. Edmund "Ted" Pillsbury. Ted shared his passion for art though his leadership at the Kimbell, Pillsbury & Peters, the Meadows and Heritage Auctions. Barry remembers hearing him give a talk in which he shared a story about his first personal acquisition, a David Hockney drawing at the young age of 19. Ted's Saturday afternoon visits to the gallery via his motorcycle always provided intriguing commentary with historical prospective. He will be remembered for personal stories like these, as well as for his many contributions to the North Texas art community.

Please join us this Saturday, March 6th from 6 - 8 PM for the opening of John Wilcox New York City 1988-89 Text Drawings and Related Paintings. The show features a body of work that was created while John was living in New York, during the late '80s, and is a reaction to the AIDS epidemic that seemed to be consuming the art community. This is the first time many of these works are being exhibited. The show includes several small text drawings, like Tender, as well as large scale paintings. The show runs through April 17, 2010.
